Dr. Kataki was borh in Raha, Nagaon District, Assam (1958). He did his MBBS from Assam Medical College (1981) securing 3rd position in the Dibrugarh University ; MD (O&G) with distinction – Assam Medical College (1987) . Post Graduate Fellowship in gynecologic oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai (1987-88). Dr. Kataki is recipient of:

- Recipient of UICC ICRETT Fellowship (2002 at Hammersmith Hospital, London)
- Recipient of Young Investigators Award at Bangkok (1998)
